An attack on a restaurant owner Miss Ma Mang, by Burmese Military Security Service Corporal Zin Htwe on June 29 in Teddim, Chin State, Burma, was recently reported to the authorities.

Corporal Zin Htwe, viciously attacked Ma Mang after she wouldn’t give him credit to buy alcohol.

The assault was reported to Vice Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Commander in Chief of the Burmese Army on July 6. Ma Mang said the incident was also reported to a police station in Teddim Township.

“The local army commander told me army personnel weren’t allowed to buy alcohol on credit from my restaurant. We could have worked this out peacefully but (after the assault) I had no other options left but to report the incident. I filed the case with the Township Administrator, the police and army commander,” said Ma Mang.

Corporal Zin Htwe was recently transferred to Teddim from central Burma to serve in the Teddim Military Security Service.

Pu Zozam, Hluttaw State representative and Chairman of the Chin National Party, condemned the brutal attack on Ma Mang.

“Since I was a child we have been forced to tolerate this wayward behavior from the military. They cannot continue to conduct themselves in such an undisciplined manner. The army must be disciplined and strive to maintain a good relationship with the people. They should be defending the rights of people not trying to dominate them,” said Pu Zozam.
