KNPLF Faction defects from Junta side -Launches attacks on Military Council

A faction within the Karenni National People's Liberation Front (KNPLF) has repudiated all links with the BGF and the Junta, and launched several attacks on regime forces in Karenni State. Two units of the KNPLF, which formerly served as the Border Guard Force in Kayah State under Myanmar’s military for nearly 30 years, turned on junta troops during June 13’s attacks on regime outposts and police stations in Maese town.

Comrade Laurine Soe, the Joint Secretary General of KNPLF, who leads the resistance faction, faction, has announced that individuals who continue to collaborate with the Junta will now be regarded as enemies.

Shortly after that declaration, KNPLF Vice Chairman U Htu Kaw, took issue with Comrade Soe and issued clarification that Laurine Soe does not reflect the stance of the entire KNPLF. According to U Htu Kaw, their faction within the KNPLF will continue its collaboration with the Military Council.

Comrade Laurine Soe responded that  "KNPLF Vice Chairman has explicitly stated that his intention to maintain a cooperation with the Military Council. As a result, he is now regarded as our adversary. Our faction has already communicated to the Vice Chairman our determination to actively oppose the Military Council. Should they persist in aligning themselves with the Military Council, they will be considered not only our enemy, but also the enemy of all the people ”, Comrade Laurine Soe said.

Since the onset of resistance against the Military Council in Karenni State, certain members of the KNPLF have actively engaged in combat against the Junta,donning uniforms adorned with the emblems of various revolutionary factions. As a consequence, a number of KNPLF soldiers have suffered casualties, he added.

The Interim Executive Council of Karenni State (IEC) has voiced its support for the growing presence of forces aligned against the Military Council. "We extend our warm welcome to any organization that stands in resistance against the Junta. While we refrain from offering an elaborate commentary on the consecutive statements, we express our appreciation for the initial one”, an official from IEC told Kantarawaddy Times.

Comrade Laurine Soe affirmed that fellow like-minded KNPLF comrades remain steadfast in their relentless pursuit to overthrow the oppressive military dictatorship. Our faction has made its position clear: our struggle will not cease until the Military Council is overthrown”, he insisted.

On July 1st, the Karenni Nationalities Defense Force (KNDF), the Demoso People's Defense Force (DMO-PDF), and the Karenni Revolution Union (KRU) united in support of Comrade Laurine Soe's statement, collectively declaring their unwavering commitment to dismantling the oppressive Military Council. The KNPLF’s announcement said it is ready to work with the civilian National Unity Government to carry out revolutionary tasks.
