The Union Election Commission (UEC), overseen by the coup Military Council is currently engaged in conducting assessments and verifications of political parties based in Shan State that have already completed their registration for the upcoming election.

On June 19th, the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), Kokang Democracy and Unity Party (KDUP), and Shan State Kokang Democratic Party (SSKDP) were subject to investigations in compliance with registration and technology laws regarding their party activities, the Military Council-controlled The New Light of Myanmar newspaper reported.

On June 19th, inspections were carried out on the Shan State-based parties, KDUP and SSKDP, among the three parties mentioned. These inspections took place at the guest avenue of a local Military Council battalion located in Lashio Township, situated in northern Shan State.

UEC has issued instructions stating that parties registered to participate in the upcoming election organized by the Military Council must fulfill certain criteria. These include gathering 100000 party members within 3 months of official registration and establishing party branches in more than half of all constituencies across the country within 6 months. Furthermore, UEC has mandated the exchange of party members' identity cards according to new standards and emphasized the need for coordination with relevant departments as required. Recent investigations primarily aim to verify compliance with these processes.

Furthermore, UEC has scheduled an examination of the Shan Nationalities Democratic Party (SNDP), which is also commonly referred to as the White Tiger Party.

Sai Aik Pao, the chairman of the White Tiger Party expressed confidence to the Shan Herald that his party is well-prepared and ready for the upcoming inspections by UEC.

"Our party headquarters has been relocated to Yangon, which means UEC will need to conduct the inspection there. We have taken care of all the necessary procedures, including issuing deposits, and we have already compiled the list of party members”, Sai Aik Pao said.

The White Tiger Party intended to participate in electoral contests not only in Shan State but also in various regions, including Yangon, Mandalay, Ayeyarwady, Bago, Tanintharyi, as well as the constituencies in the capital city Naypyidaw.

A total of 50 parties submitted applications for political party registration to UEC, which is under the control of the Military Council. Out of these, 13 parties applied for the party establishment permit. However, as of June 16th, only 7 of these parties have been granted the party establishment permit.

The Military Council has already announced the dissolution of the Shan National League for Democracy (SNLD), which achieved regional victory in the 2020 election in Shan State. The reason for the dissolution is attributed to the party's failure to complete the required party registration process.
