The headquarters of the Karenni National People's Liberation Front (KNPLF), an armed organization based in Hoseit village, located in Mese Township of Karenni (Kayah) State, was subjected to an aerial bombardment by the Military Council.

On June 17th, the Military Council carried out an air raid on Hoseit, resulting in various damage, including the destruction of a football field, according to a local witness.  "On May 17th, we witnessed a harrowing event as a series of six bombs were dropped from a military aircraft. The situation in the region remains incredibly tense, and the bombardment inflicted significant damage. At present, the intensity of the fighting around the nearby Pantein village is alarming, with the Military Council frequently employing helicopters. It has become a common occurrence for aircraft to drop bombs in pairs during their attacks. Additionally, a reconnaissance plane has been conducting daily surveillance flights”, he told Kantarawaddy Times.

The football field, which suffered damage from the bombing attack, was located a mere 300 meters from KNPLF headquarters. Furthermore, there are currently two unexploded bombs partially buried in the vicinity, situated between the football field and the headquarters, locals said.

According to the residents, Pantein, another village in Mese Township, has also endured significant damage as a result of the airstrike conducted by the Military Council.

On June 13th, the Karenni resistance forces launched a surprise attack on three outposts of the Military Council along the Thailand-Myanmar border, as well as the police station situated in Mese.

After this attack,  the Military Council has conducted relentless airstrikes and shelling in the conflict zone, showing no regard even for residential areas. As a result, over 5000 individuals, including residents of Mese and those who have fled from Hpruso, Demoso, and Bawlakhe townships, have sought refuge in the border areas of Thailand. The displaced population is in urgent need of assistance and support.

Officials from the Karenni Army (KA) have issued a cautionary statement, highlighting the potential for a resurgence of fighting due to the persistently tense military situation in Mese.
