ZORO Group provides food and clothing to Myanmar IDPs

The Zo Reunification Organization (ZORO), based in Aizawl City, Mizoram State, recently visited internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Myanmar and provided them with food and clothing.

On March 14, the ZORO Refugee Committee Team, headed by ZORO Vice President Pu R. Lalchhuana, visited the IDPs from Myanmar who are residing in the Sihhmui Camp located in Aizawl District and Nghalchawm Camp in Mamit District. During their visit, the team

provided essential support to the IDPs.

After learning that the Myanmar IDPs in the area were running out of food, ZORO promptly collected emergency donations from its members and provided them with 20 bags of rice, 2 bags of beans, 3 bags of artificial meat, as well as oil and clothes.

"After we heard that the IDPs in that area were almost out of food, we urgently collected donations from our members and went to help," said a ZORO member.

The ZORO organization is a prominent civil society organization in Mizoram State, dedicated to thereunification of Zo (Chin) ethnics living in three countries - India, Myanmar, and Bangladesh - under one unified rule.

The Mizoram State Government has reported that there are over 30,000 IDPs from Myanmar residing in Mizoram State, which shares a border with Chin State. However, civil society organizations in Chin estimate that the actual number of IDPs is closer to 50,000.

Most of the IDPs are Chin people, and they have been fleeing the war for about 2 years, and it is becoming increasingly challenging for them to maintain their livelihoods as donor support is dwindling.
