Yangon PDFs announce bombing campaign to disrupt Thingyan holiday

Yangon's Peoples’ Defence Forces (PDF) announced that bombings will be carried out during the Thingyan holidays in Yangon.

On 7 April, a United Brothers Alliance and Yangon Underground Revolutionary Force Alliance officially proclaimed that bomb attacks will be executed across Yangon city during the coming Thingyan holidays, set for 13 to 17 April.

The protesters and underground revolutionary forces have warned the public not to go and stay near the Thingyan pavilions which are being set up by the Military Council for the Thingyan celebrations.

“No one is enjoying Thingyan holidays under the military dictatorship. Not a single person, hence, needs to take part in Thingyan Festival held by the military regime. Only military goons and staff working under the Military Council will be celebrating. Therefore, please let us inform the public to stay away from them,” said a member of the Yangon PDF Central Command under the control of the National Unity Government (NUG) said.

Yangon PDFs have been attacking the Military Council’s properties and its related businesses. They are concerned about the safety of the people while carrying out the attacks during the Thingyan holidays and thus they are giving warnings to the public.

Protesters are also calling on the public to boycott the festivities.

“The fascist military regime is trying to create a wonderful and exciting looking Thingyan Festival. The reason is they want to show that they are capable of governing the country successfully. We respectfully and humbly urge the people not to collaborate with the military dictators in this Thingyan Festival,” said Ko Zaw Htet of the Youths Union Council.

After a year of military rule and the people's resistance, the military regime has been setting up Thingyan pavilions for the festival across the major cities including Yangon, and trying to host a lively looking Thingyan Festival for propaganda purposes.
