UWSA Gives Humanitarian aid to War-Displaced People in Wa Autonomous Zone Division – Issues Temporary Residence Permits

The United Wa State Army (UWSA) has announced that all war-displaced people who evacuated their homes amid the recent conflict in Shan State and sought shelter in the Wa Self-Administered Division, may apply for temporary residence permits at the nearest local police station.

As per a directive from the Wa State Legal Working Committee on December 3rd, individuals displaced and arriving in the Wa Self-Administered Division, must acquire temporary residence permits at police stations, along with registering their vehicles at the nearest traffic police stations.

"Local authorities conveyed yesterday that everyone must apply for temporary residence permits and register their cars, urging all war-displaced people to cooperate, citing these measures as necessary for security reasons”, a displaced person currently sheltering in Wa Self-Administered Division told Shan Herald.

Tens of thousands of individuals displaced by intense clashes between the Military Council and the Kokang armed organization, the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) in the Kokang Self-Administered Zone, have sought refuge in Wa territory.

UWSA has stated that it is offering humanitarian aid to these war-displaced people.
