The US Embassy marked International Women's Day on 8 March by commemorating women who have been killed by the junta in the Spring Revolution.

"On International Women's Day, we pay tribute to Angel Kyal Sin, Mya Thwe Thwe Khaing, Khin Myo Chit, and all the women and girls who have lost their lives in the past year. We honor all brave women striving for inclusive democracy in Burma,” said the Embassy’s statement.

Angel Kyal Zin was 19 years old and was shot dead by junta’s troops during a protest in Mandalay on 3 March, 2021. Mya Thwe Thwe Khaing, 20, was shot in the head and killed on 9 February, 2021 in Nay Pyi Taw.

Seven-year-old Khin Myo Chit was shot dead by junta soldiers and policemen in her house on 23 March, 2021.

Myaung Women's guerrilla group also paid tribute to all women who are struggling under the oppression of the military regime.

"We greatly praise all women from all walks of life. We have come to realize that women's participation in the revolution is on an equal footing with men. We believe that in addition to overthrowing the fascist dictatorship, women are empowering themselves and working for equal rights, which will automatically eliminate gender discrimination in the future," the group told Mizzima.

The shadow National Unity Government of Myanmar (NUG) Ministry of Women, Youth and Childrens’ Affairs (MoWYC) called on the public to stand with women and take part in a self-portrait campaign on International Women's Day, called "Break the Bias, End Discrimination.
