Stimulant pills worth kyats 32.5 billion seized in Rakhine and Yangon

At least 25 million stimulant  pills worth kyats 32.5 billion were seized in Ann township of Rakhine State and Shwepyithar township under Rangoon division, said the CCDAC Myanmar.

On 5 April in the early morning hours, the authorities detained two suspects in connection with 15 million ecstasy pills seized at  Ann joint checkpoint in Rakhine State. The detainees were later identified as Zaw Myo Thant (alias Pho Htoo) and Thein Than Myint.

Later the police arrested Kyaw Min Thein (alias Thein Shwe), Htet Wai Yan, Hla Aung Zan, Nan Aung Lin, Moe Chae and Moe Kyaw along with a vehicle  at around 11:30 pm in Mrauk-U locality.  The arrested individuals are suspected to be involved with the seized drugs.

On 6 April, another consignment of 10 million ecstasy tablets and a car were confiscated from a warehouse on Myat Lay Pat road in Shwepyithar township.

According to the CCDAC Myanmar, the seized stimulant drugs were being transported from Rangoon region to Rakhine localities and those involved are being prosecuted under the laws.

The pills are understood to be smuggled to Bangladesh through the Rakhine localities, said the anti-narcotics authority.
