In December, the Junta filed charges under the Terrorism Act against 20 individuals, including general administrative officials, volunteer aid workers, and businessmen in Mon State, alleging them with having links with the National Unity Government (NUG) and the People's Defense Force (PDF).
On December 18th, the Military Council arrested U Aung Ko Ko, Deputy Chief of the General Administration Department of Thanbyuzayat Township, and two subordinate officers, accusing them of acting as informants for the resistance forces.
“The Deputy Chief of the Department was arrested at his home based on a tip-off that he was leaking employee information to PDFs. He is now facing charges under section 52(A) of terrorism”, a source said.
The Military Council also charged 20 local businessmen in Thanbyuzayat involved in construction, gold shops, and restaurants with providing financial support to NUG and PDF, initiating legal proceedings under section 52(A).
On December 16th, Daw Chaw Su Su Htwe, the president of the Surviving Together Social Assistance Association in Thaton Township, was arrested and faced terrorism charges under section 52(A) for commenting on a social media post by a PDF member.
"Family members are not permitted to visit her. The family learned about her prosecution under the Terrorism Act only when the police informed us. We are anxious because we don't know how she is being interrogated. She was only engaged in charity work”, one of her relatives told DMG.
Likewise, on December 5th, the Military Council detained Mawlamyine resident Ko Zwe Arkar for posting news about PDFs on social media.
On November 30th, U Mya Than, a PDF member, was apprehended with a pistol in Thanbyuzayat Township, leading the Military Council to conduct a comprehensive search of his associates, locals reported.
The Military Council has established a special task force to locate and apprehend supporters and financiers of the NUG and PDF in Mon State.
During September, October, and November, the Military Council filed terrorism charges under section 52(A) against 15 men and 20 women, accusing them of allegedly aiding NUG and PDF.
