PPST members to hold talks on Military Council-lead NSPNC issues

7 ‘Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement - Signatories, Ethnic Armed Organizations (NCA-S-EAOs)’, members of the Peace Process Steering Team (PPST) comprised of ethnic armed revolutionary organizations, will collaborate and engage in discussions regarding matters concerning the National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee (NSPNC).

Colonel Saw Kyaw Nyunt, spokesperson of the PPST told the Shan Herald that these discussions are scheduled to take place in Chiang Mai on May 17th and 18th.

"The talks will take place over a span of two days, from May 17th to May 18th. The primary focus of these discussions will be to address the informal meeting held in March between the members of the 7 NCA-S-EAOs and the NSPNC”, he explained.

The 7 NCA-S-EAOs and NSPNC convened for an informal meeting in Naypyidaw on March 28th.

During the upcoming meeting in Chiang Mai, the member organizations will deliberate on the arrangements and agenda for their next meeting with NSPNC.

"In the previous meeting with NSPNC, we were able to gather eight key points of discussion, one of which was to schedule another meeting with them. As such, this matter will be among the points to be discussed during the two-day meeting of the member organizations'', Colonel Saw Kyaw Nyunt said.

During the two-day meeting in Naypyidaw held in March, the 7 NCA-S-EAOs and the Military Council deliberated on seven points, which encompassed the promotion of inclusive political talks involving all stakeholders and the potential convening of a peace conference.

In the previous meeting, both sides presented and negotiated their desired discussion topics without any predetermined agendas, Colonel Saw Kyaw Nyunt informed the news media after the meeting.

The NCA-S-EAOs have consistently called for the establishment of a framework for inclusive political dialogue encompassing all stakeholders, whereas the Military Council has put forth and deliberated on the feasibility of organizing a peace conference.

The upcoming talks in Chiang Mai will be attended by the 7 NCA-S-EAOs, including the New Mon State Party (NMSP), Arakan Liberation Party (ALP), Democratic Karen Benevolent Army (DKBA), Karen National Union/Karen National Liberation Army - Peace Council (KNU/KNLA-PC), Lahu Democratic Union (LDU), Pa-O National Liberation Army (PNLO), and Restoration Council of Shan State/Shan State Army (RCSS/SSA), according to PPST officials.
