NUG Minister's House Sealed Off by the Junta

The Military Council has sealed off the residence of the Minister of Labour, under the National Unity Government (NUG), as per sources close to the matter.

The Military Council has sealed off the residence of Nai Suwunna (aka) Nai Tun Pe, the Minister of Labour under the National Unity Government (NUG), located in Ward No. 7, Htone Aing Village, Hpa-An Township, Karen State.

"Nai Suwunna's house has been sealed off twice in the past. No one has lived in that house for a long time. After the military coup, no one lives there anymore. Now it has been seized under the terrorism law,” said a close person.

Reliable sources have verified that at approximately 3pm on June 13, the residence of Nai Suwunna, the Labour Minister of the National Unity Government (NUG), was sealed off by troops from the Military Council, accompanied by subordinate police and administrative groups.

A vinyl attached to the house indicates that Nai Suwunna's residence has been sealed off under anti-terrorism laws.

Nai Suwunna, a seasoned politician, has a notable background representing the Mon party in both the 1990 and 2015 elections. Additionally, he served as a member of the central executive committee of the Mon Unity Party.

Following the military coup, Nai Suwunna resigned from the Mon Unity Party, which had been engaged in election preparations and cooperating with the Military Council.

Nai Suwunna was appointed as the Minister of Labour under the National Unity Government (NUG) in March 2021.

Likewise, on June 9, the Military Council carried out the sealing off of three residences in Bogale Township, located in the Ayeyarwady Region. Notably one of the homeowners whose house was sealed off was arrested on allegations of engaging in political activities against the Military Council.

The Military Council has been conducting operations across the country, aiming to apprehend, incarcerate, and confiscate the assets of individuals involved in activities against them, as well as those suspected of having past affiliations with the National League for Democracy (NLD).

In a statement issued on June 13, the National League for Democracy (NLD) highlighted that following the military coup, the Military Council has sealed off the residences and properties of a combined total of 625 civilians, including NLD Members of Parliament (MPs) and party members.
