NUG designates Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's residence as cultural heritage

The National Unity Government (NUG) Acting President Duwa Lashi La signed an announcement on September 2 that the house of detained public leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi at No. (54-56) University Avenue is designated as cultural heritage.

The residence has been declared as a cultural heritage site in accordance with the guidelines and standards set up by the Interim Administration Center for Heritage, as approved by the NUG cabinet meeting.

All the immovable property on the 1.923-acre yard at University Avenue No. (54-56) in Bahan Township have been designated as national cultural heritage.

The NUG declared that it is prohibited for anyone to acquire, try to acquire, sell, or attempt to sell the land and facilities, as well as to demolish them and alter their appearance.

The NUG warned that those who violate these prohibitions will be prosecuted in accordance with the Cultural Heritage Protection Law, the Law on Restriction on the Transfer of Immovable Assets, as well as the Anti-Terrorism Law, and those individuals and organizations will also be blacklisted.

On August 22, the Junta-controlled Supreme Court made a final decision on the appeal of Aung San Suu Kyi's brother, U Aung San Oo, to auction and sell the family house and to share the proceeds.

Public leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, who was detained by successive tyrants, has been imprisoned again since last year's military coup.

Currently, the military council has sentenced Daw Aung San Suu Kyi to 20 years in prison in Nay Pyi Taw prison on false claims.
