More than 10 Arrested in Connection with the Assassination of Ashin Village Administrator

U Maung Myint, the Administrator of Ashin Model Village in Ye Township, Mon State, was shot and killed on February 2.  Security forces investigating the incident have arrested more than 10 people, including  Daw Nyo Laya, a member of the Ye Township Election Commission.

Police Chief U Thein Zaw said, "We (local police) did not make any arrests. The army may have been directly summoned to  investigate. Ten  suspects have been arrested by the military, including a member of the  election commission."

Administrator U Maung Myint was shot dead by motorcyclists in front of the Abaw Village Administrator's Office on his way back from Ashin where he attended  the opening ceremony of the Nai Lon asphalt road in Yan Myo Aung Ward, Ye Township on 2 February.

The same evening the army interrogated two boys on a motorcycle in Dooya village.

"The two boys were leaving on a motorcycle at night when it was calm on this side. When the army saw them, they called them. They fired their guns into the air and then interrogated the children,  who were  later released," said a local from Dooya Village.

According to the locals, security forces have set up a camp at the Ashin ward office following the assassination of the village Administrator.
