In Ywangan Township, located in the Taunggyi District of Shan State, the Military Council forces forcefully entered several public houses with a significant number of troops, and also set fire to some residential properties.
Residents reported that on March 25, a group of approximately 100 soldiers from the military council conducted a raid and search operation in Ahlelchaung village and Hngetthauk village, both located in Ywangan Township.
Some homes were reportedly set on fire during the operation.
A local man, who asked not to be named, told the Shan Herald that Military Council soldiers entered a residence in Ahlelchaung village, looted the property, and stole gold and money.
"When the soldiers entered the village, some came on foot and some came by car. It was the time when the owners of the broken-in house were going to work in the fields. Soldiers took 2 gold necklaces, 30 lakhs in cash and TV from the house. The mirror in the wardrobe was also smashed," a local man, who did not want to be named, told the Shan Herald.
Furthermore, it has been reported that the Military Council forces not only ransacked a house in Ahlelchaung village and confiscated belongings, but also intimidated the local villagers.
"The soldiers in the car shouted at the villagers to remain silent and brandished their weapons, warning that failure to comply would result in dire consequences," the above person continued.
On March 26, a group of approximately 30 members of the Military Council arrived in Hngetthauk village and set fire to a house, accusing its occupants of supporting the PDF.
"After accusing a villager of being a PDF supporter, and then they burned down that person's house. Then they asked the villagers if anyone had heard the PDF news. They also fired five shots,” a village woman told the Shan Herald.
Local villagers are reportedly feeling worried and fearful due to the actions of the Military Council troops, and as a result, some residents have moved to other locations within the area.
Besides Ahlelchaung and Hngetthauk villages, the Military Council is also conducting combat operations in Nwarbangyi and Lelkaing villages.
Accordingto residents, the Military Council troops have tightened entry and exit points of Ywagnan town and are conducting harsh interrogations.
On March 20, Data for Myanmar announced that the Military Council and its subordinate organizations had burned down 135 civilian homes in Shan State and 18 homes in Ywangan between the time of the military coup and February 28, 2023.
