Military Council Bombardment Kills 8 Civilians in Thantlang Township

Chin National Front (CNF) spokesperson Salai Htet Ni has stated that on the morning of March 30, the Military Council launched airstrikes on Khuafo village in Thantlang Township, Chin State. As a result, eight civilians, including two children under the age of 10, were tragically killed, and approximately 20 individuals sustained injuries during the attack.

Yesterday morning, at around 10:00am, Mi35 helicopters and fighter jets belonging to the Military Council troops bombarded Khuafo village, which is situated approximately 3 miles away from Thantlang Township. without any fighting on the ground.

“ The Military Council’s warplanes and Mi35s dropped approximately nine bombs on the area. The attack occurred without any reported ground battles in the vicinity at that time.”

The tragic incident involving the Military Council’s bombardment claimed the lives of five women and two children aged 6 and 9 years old.Among the injured are 9 and 10-year-old children.

Salai Htet Ni has stated that the bombing attack, which claimed the lives of innocent civilians, was a clear indication of the Military Council’s continued targeting of non- combatants.

“ If they carry out arson attacks in villages, they often give the excuse that they do it out of malice to the villages and IDP camps on the grounds that they are supporting local defense forces and ethnic armed groups. There is no Chin National Army or local defense forces in that small village. it is clear that they deliberately targeted civilians,”said Salai Htet Ni.

On March 27, during the 78th Anniversary of Armed Forces Day ceremony, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, the coup leader, threatened to take decisive action against ethnic armed groups that were supporting the NUG and PDF. Shortly after, a village located in Thantlang Township, where the Chin National Front (CNF) is headquartered, was bombed.

The Military Council troops have conducted more airstrikes than ground offensives in Chin State, conducting more than 100 airstrikes during the first two months of 2023.
