Mawyawadi Navy Arrests Four Women for Sharing 'Flower Strike' Photos Online

According to villagers, the Mawyawadi Navy has apprehended four women from Kan Pauk region in Yebyu Township, Dawei District. These women were reportedly arrested for participating in the flower strike, as stated by the villagers.

The individuals who were arrested are Daw Hnin Myint (45), Daw Su Wai (41), Daw Mee Lay (39), and Daw Mee Cho (37).

A 35-year-old local woman shared, "During Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's 78th birthday, they participated in the flower strike and were subsequently arrested after their pictures were shared online."

On June 20, at approximately 8:00 p.m., the Mawyawadi Navy arrived at Hpaung Taw village in three vehicles. After entering the village, they proceeded to arrest four women from Hpaung Taw village. Subsequently, at around 11:00 p.m., they departed from the village.

According to the villagers, during the arrest, the village administrator, who was appointed by the Military Council, was present in Hpaung Taw village along with some military supporters.

Residents have stated that Daw Su Wai, along with her sister, has been subjected to interrogation by Military Council troops for several months following the military coup.

According to a family member, the four arrested women are currently being detained and interrogated at the Mawyawadi Naval Station headquarters in Ohn Pin Kwin Village. As of the evening of June 22, they have not been allowed to meet with their family members. This situation has caused great concern among the family members.

On June 19, at approximately 11:00 p.m., the navy of the Military Council also arrested a couple who are the owners of Yin Kwin Thit (ECCD) Private Preschool located in Thiri Mingalar Ward, Kan Pauk Village.

During the two-day period of June 19 and 20, six individuals in the Kan Pauk region were detained and subjected to interrogation by the Military Council. As of now, none of them have been released.

Apart from regions like Ayeyarwady, Yangon, Sagaing, and Mandalay, the Military Council troops have also conducted arrests of residents in Mawlamyine Township, Mon State, and Kawkareik Township, Karen State.

On June 19, to commemorate State Counselor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's birthday, the revolutionary forces called for people to join the flower strike. However, on that day, the military carried out numerous arrests of individuals who were wearing flowers, carrying flowers, selling flowers, and distributing flower seedlings. Across the country, nearly 150 people were reported to have been arrested.

Some of those who were arrested have been released, while others remain in detention up to this day, according to their family members. Additionally, it has been reported that some of the arrested individuals have been charged under Section 505-A.

In commemoration of the 78th birthday of State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi, who was arrested and imprisoned by the Military Council, flower strikes and public movements took place nationwide. Similar flower strikes were also observed across the country in 2022.
