Location of Matupi District Office Complex Finally Confirmed

The Chin State government has confirmed that the Matupi District Office complex will be built near Hpanai Ngahlaing village, which is located about 8 miles away from Matupi town on the Hakha to Matupi highway road in southern Chin State.

Out of five proposed areas, Chin State ministry for construction found the location at Hpanai Ngahlaing village in Matupi township offered the most suitable conditions.

For example, a rating system to determine the best location gave Hpanai Ngahlaing 46 out of 50. Other proposed locations received much lower scores after they were rated.

“There will be 26 buildings in the Matupi District Office complex. We need at least 100 acres for the buildings and government residences, and there are about 180 acres of land available in Hpanai Ngahlaing village. That’s why it was decided to build the district offices there. It was calculated as part of the long term plan,” said U Soe Htet, municipal minister of the Chin State government.

Some locals want the district office complex in downtown Matupi town but others want it at Hpanai Ngahlaing village.

Prior to the decision by the Chin State government where it would be built there were demonstrations about its location.

U Tin Myint, deputy minister of Union Government Office minister, said over $1 million (MMK 1,824.9 million) is available for the construction during a Union-level meeting in Parliament on March 14.
