In Hseni Township, situated within Lashio District, Shan State, a conflict erupted between the Military Council troops and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA). As a result some residents have fled the conflict.

Since September 16 clashes between the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and the Military Council troops have been ongoing between Ho Nawng village and Ping Kan village in Kun Kauk village tract, Hseni Township. Approximately 80 residents have fled the conflict, as reported by a local individual who preferred to remain anonymous.

"The conflict has been ongoing for two days now, characterized by the use of artillery shells and small arms. The elderly residents from Ho Nawng village and Ping Kan village are seeking refuge at the Kun Kauk village monastery. Today, there seems to be a decrease in the intensity of the fighting," shared a local resident with SHAN.

On September 17, between  2:00 and 6:00 p.m., an intense clash unfolded between the Military Council troops and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) in the middle of Ho Nawng village and Ping Kan village, as mentioned by the local resident.

A man in his 30s, who was knowledgeable about the situation, shared with SHAN that three local civilians who were returning from hillside farming found themselves trapped amidst the ongoing conflict.

"When they heard the sounds of fighting and returned home from hillside farming, they encountered Kachin resistance fighters who allowed them to pass. However, when they encountered Military Council soldiers again further along the way, they were not permitted to continue. They found themselves trapped there for over 20 minutes amidst the battle," recounted a man in his 30s who had knowledge of the events, told SHAN.

Residents informed SHAN that the incidence of such clashes near the village not only raised concerns for their safety, but also hindered their ability to move freely.

On September 7, a conflict erupted in Narh Sawt village tract, Hseni Township, during which Military Council troops entered a grocery store owned by a civilian and proceeded to loot goods and money.

The armed groups operating in Hseni Township include Military Council troops, militia forces, TNLA forces, KIA forces, MNDAA forces, and SSPP forces.
