Maungdaw, Arakan State: Village Admin officer U Tin Maung (a Rakhine community) of Udaung village fined Kyat 500,000 to a Rohingya religious leader for renovating a little part of a mosque on July 13, Mohin from Maundaw said.
The victim was identified as--- Maulana Jubair (50), son of Maulana Saley, principal of the Udaung Madrasa, hailed from Udaung village under the Myient Hlut village tract of Maungdaw Township, he more added.
The said mosque is in the compound of Udaungn Madrasa. On that day, in the morning, when the Maulana Jubair saw the mosque was slightly inclined for heavy rain and recent flood, he called two villagers to set up three pillars in the mosque to upright the wall, according to villagers.
On receiving information, the village Admin officer and his collaborator Korim Ullah (40), immediately called the principal Maulana Jubair to the village Admin office and asked him who gave him permission to renovate the mosque, said a businessman Jalal Sha from the village.
The religious leader told the Admin officer that he didn’t repair the mosque; he only set up three pillars for standing the wall made of bamboo, a trader said from the locality, on condition of anonymity.
However, the Rakhine Admin officer fined the Maulana Jubair Kyat 500,000. But, the principal (Maulana) was called to Maungdaw Township administration office (Mayaka) through village admin officer on July 14, Rumi another villager said.
The Maungdaw Township administration officer U Hla Myint said, “We respect you as a Muslim religious leader, please don’t repair mosque in next time. If you want to repair mosque, you have to take permission from Maungdaw Township administration office or Maungdaw District administration office, he further said.
Rohingya villagers have been barred from renovation of houses, mosque, religious school and even a hut of cow since long. If a Rohingya villager wants to construct a house or even to renovate a hut, he must take permission from concerned authority by giving huge money.
