Junta Mortar Attacks kills One Civilian in Kyaikto

As the military junta fired mortar shells into villages in Kyaikto township, Mon State, one civilian was killed and more than 3,000 people were forced to flee to safety.

The Karen National Union (KNU) center announced that the military junta stationed in Shwegyin township, Pago, fired mortal shells at Kaywe village, Kyaikto township.

On the afternoon of November 18, near Zaloatgyi village, Shwegyin township, in Pago division, the 598th infantry battalion fired 4 mortar shells at both Chaungwa and Kaywe villages . The shells exploded in a field near the village, killing 54-year-old U Min Naing, who was working in the field.

On November 10, military junta forces stationed in Pago, Shwegyin Township, and Waw Township on the west side of the Sittang River fired 10 mortar shells at Kaywe village. The mortar shell exploded near a house. No one was killed or injured but several cattle were killed.

More than 3,000 civilians from Kyauk Phyar, Pyinkatoe, Zee Pyaung, Win Kan, Winkalaw, Aluu, Nyatpyawtaw village groups in Kyaikto Township have fled due to the bombardment of shells.

Artillery attacks in Kyaikto township have killed and injured civilians, livestock and family pets, as well as damaging buildings.

KNU reports the military junta is constantly targeting both residential areas and workplaces.
