Junta arrests 7 female civil servants in the CDM in Chin State’s Falam township

A local resident said that Myanmar junta troops arrested seven female government employees participating in the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) in their houses in Falam township, Chin State on the evening of January 25.

"In Falam township, they arrested government employees who joined the CDM. Yesterday, they tried to arrest a female teacher, but she was not at home, so they arrested the teacher’s mother. And in downtown Falam, they searched the houses they suspected,” he said.

Since the military coup in Myanmar, women in the country are facing various threats of violence by the junta. Nearly 100 women have been killed by the junta’s security forces since the military takeover.

Most of the CDM staff in Chin State are from the Department of Health and the Department of Education. The Chin Nationalities League released a letter on 23 January regarding education staff members in Falam township.

The letter called on education staff in Falam township to immediately stop working for the junta and to stand with the people. It has issued a final warning that it will take the “necessary action” if the staff remain loyal to the military junta.
