Junta and militia launch joint attack on RCSS base in Mongping, Shan State

The junta and allied militiamen launched a joint attack on the Restoration Council of Shan State/Shan State Army (RCSS/SSA) base in Mongping Township, located in eastern Shan State.

RCSS spokesperson Major Sai Kham San said that approximately 100 junta soldiers and militia members attacked the RCSS base in Yanghkam Village Tract, located in Mongping Township of Kengtung (Kyaingtong) District, resulting in intense gun clashes.

"The junta and militia launched an attack on the RCSS base with about 100 troops. The battle took place in Mongping, Kengtung. We managed to capture some weapons from the enemy, and it seems there may be casualties on their side. At present, the military situation is still tense,” he told Shan Herald.

He added that RCSS frontline sources reported the seizure of at least three small arms from the junta troops, but details could not be provided as area clearance has not yet been completed.

Reports indicate that the Lahu militia group assisted the junta in its fight against the RCSS in Mongping, but Shan Herald has not yet confirmed this information.

In the third week of August, the junta-controlled National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) invited the 7EAO Alliance, composed of seven ethnic armed organizations (EAOs) that have signed the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA), to meet in Naypyidaw. The meeting was attended by six of the seven organizations, except the RCSS, which serves as the chairman of the 7EAO Alliance. Weeks after that incident, an armed clash erupted between the RCSS and the junta.
