Junta Airstrike Targets School for Displaced Children in Karenni State 14 Victims -All Children

An airstrike carried out by the Junta in Demoso Township, Karenni (Kayah) State, claimed the lives of four children and left over 10 others injured at a school for displaced children, Karenni National Defense Force (KNDF)’s spokesperson told Narinjara.

“The airstrike killed four, and ten others sustained injuries, with all the fatalities being children”, he said.

At 10:00 AM on February 5th, tragedy struck as children aged 11-13 lost their lives when the Junta's aircraft dropped two bombs on Laymai School, where both war-displaced and local children were studying.

The school, accommodating around 200 students from kindergarten to 8th grade, was hit by an airstrike while the students were actively engaged in their studies.

A KNDF spokesperson added, "The Junta's deliberate targeting of the school during

study hours highlights its perpetration of war crimes against both the people and children. Unfortunately this recurring pattern is not unfamiliar. In Karenni State, Junta troops persist in committing war crimes, targeting schools, IDP (internally displaced people) camps, and even hospitals.”

The catalogue of  war crimes carried out by the Myanmar Junta since the 2021 coup,

is getting bigger and bigger with extensive documentation in the hands of international human lawyers and the UN Human Rights Council. However there has been zero interest

from the ICC (International Criminal Court) headed a UK

Local defense forces in Karenni State are recommending building bomb shelters for children in schools and villages, involving the excavation of ditches, reinforcing the soil, and placing logs on top for added protection.
