IDPs in Southern Shan State eating porridge due to the lack of donors

Internal displaced people (IDPs) in Southern Shan State, have no other choice but to eat porridge because there are no donors anymore this month.

IDPs fleeing the war from Sisai, Pinlaung, and Nyaungshwe are eating porridge due to the shortage of food, a volunteer helping the IDPs told Shan Herald.

“There were no more donors since last month. All the IDPs from Sisai, Pinlaung and Nyaungshwe are facing shortage of food. Some of the people can’t access the day-labour jobs, so they can only eat porridge two times a day. We are still looking for donors as much as we can”, the volunteer said.

Battles ongoing nowadays in Southern Shan State and Karenni Region. There are still plenty of landmines in the area, but the Military Council troops are forcing the IDPs to return home by the end of October.

“We still can't go back. It is not easy to return. And the children are still attending schools. Of course, we want to return home, but the fighting continues there. The landmines have not been cleared yet. The army is forcing us to return, but they apply nothing for the safe return”, an IDP in Southern Shan State explained.

Some refugees from Nyangshwe have already returned to their homes this month, but they are still worried about security because of the ongoing fighting in the region.

About 5000 IDPs from Sisai are left, but There are still many people who fled from war from Pinlaung and Nyaungshwe Townships.
