Four people were injured in Nagara Village, Kyauktaw Township, when their house was struck by an artillery shell fired by junta troops at around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, according to villagers.

“They were having meals when their house was hit. Two shells landed in front of their house and one shell struck their house,” said a Nagara villager.

There was no fighting near the village when the 9th Military Operations Command based inKyauktaw, which is about one mile from Nagara, shelled the village, said residents.

Daw Ma Yin Oo, 65, her 40-year-old daughter, and two grandsons aged 17 and 11 were injured. They received treatment at a village clinic.

“The military base from which they fired artillery shells is not far from our village, so we dare not go out,” said another villager. “We can see when they fire artillery shells. We stayed in our houses, but then an artillery shell hit a house, and we don’t feel safe now.”

DMG was unable to obtain comment from Arakan State Security and Border Affairs Minister Colonel Kyaw Thura.

Military tensions have been running high across Arakan State as well as in neighbouring Chin State’s Paletwa Township.

Three villagers were killed and eight others were injured by junta artillery strikes in Kin Seik Village, Mrauk-U Township, on August 28.
