Four Civilians Shot Dead by Military Council Column

In a village located within Myinmu Township, Sagaing Region, residents reported that Military Council troops launched military operations, resulting in 4 civilians being shot dead.

On August 14, around 5:00 a.m., a Military Council column entered Ywar Taw Lay village in Myinmu Township and initiated gunfire, resulting in the death of 4 IDP men and the injury of 2 others, according to an announcement by the Ngazun People's Defense Force.

"Yes, the deceased are IDPs. They are not from Ywar Taw Lay but originally from Myinmu Township. They sought refuge in Ywar Taw Lay to escape the conflict. Tragically, four individuals have lost their lives due to gunshot wounds, and two others have been injured," shared an individual assisting the IDPs.

Furthermore, there have been reports of innocent individuals being abducted by the Military Council troops. However, the current whereabouts and status of those detained remain unknown.

On August 14, 4 people who died were from Aung Thukha Village, Nganzun Township, Mandalay Region, and they were people who fled the war to Myinmu Township because the military launched military operations in their village earlier this month, people close to them said.

The Ngazun People's Defense Force revealed that the group responsible for the shooting of the four IDPs was engaged in military operations originating from Myinmu Township. As they entered Ywar Taw Lay village and commenced gunfire, the presence of at least 100 troops was reported.

On August 5, the same column shot and killed a local man during military operations in Yae Lel Thaung Village, Nganzun Township, according to residents.

The column has been engaged in military operations in Nganzun Township for approximately 9 days. These operations have been conducted in various villages including Htan Ta Pin, Yae Lel Thaung, Nabe Pin, Thar Kyin, and Kan Thar within Nganzun Township. Additionally, military operations are ongoing in Ywar Taw Lay village within Myinmu Township.

During the military operations in Nganzun Township, residents sought refuge in Myinmu Township to escape the conflict. Similarly, when military operations occurred in Myinmu Township, they sought refuge in Nganzun Township.

Despite both townships seeking refuge from each other, the exact number of those fleeing is unknown.

In that column, an estimated 200 Military Council troops have been deployed, divided into two groups that entered nearby villages. Reports from residents indicate that within these villages, the Military Council troops have been involved in arresting individuals, carrying out killings, setting homes on fire, confiscating local residents' belongings, and causing destruction to crops and food supplies.
