Fierce Fighting Claims Lives of 33 Civilians in Shan State and Karenni State

On July 5, KNDF B09 issued a statement revealing that 33 civilians lost their lives as a result of artillery shells, small arms fire, and airstrikes unleashed by the Military Council during their military operations in Shan State and Karenni State.

According to the statement, there have been over 6 clashes between the Military Council troops, who have initiated military operations, and the revolutionary joint forces in Mobye (Mongpai) Township since June 5.

During the conflict in Mobye (Mongpai) Township, the Military Council troops, who initiated the military operations, tragically caused the deaths of 20 men, 3 women, and a child for no apparent reason.

"Victims were subjected to prolonged torture and brutally murdered. Some were tragically shot to death. Based on the condition of the young women's bodies, it is suspected that they were sexually assaulted before being killed," said an anonymous source involved in transporting the bodies.

Similarly, during the conflict, three civilians lost their lives in Mobye Township, one person in Bawlakhe Township, and another person in Loikaw Township as a result of artillery shells fired by the Military Council troops. Additionally, one person died in Hpruso Township, while four individuals lost their lives in Hpasawng Township due to the impact of airstrikes.

Ma Su Su of the Karenni Democratic Front (KDF) said, "I want to emphasize that their actions are highly inappropriate and unacceptable. While I understand that armed groups are engaged in mutual combat, targeting innocent people's homes, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and endangering lives is an act of cowardice."

As a consequence of these clashes, throughout the month of June, approximately 50 troops from the Military Council were reported to have been killed. Additionally, three comrades from the revolutionary joint force also lost their lives in the confrontations.

Furthermore, during the week starting from June 13, several Military Council camps situated on the Thai-Myanmar border in Mese Township, including BP-13 camp, BP-14 camp, Mae Ta Nwe camp in BP-15, Taung Hla camp in BP-16, along with Mese township police station and Tactical Command Center camp, were collectively targeted in an attack by the KA, KNPLF, and KNDF. Substantial amounts of weapons and ammunition were seized by the attacking forces during the operation.

After the military coup, the Military Council aimed to establish control over Pekon, Mobye, and Pinlaung townships due to their proximity to Nay Pyi Taw. To achieve this, they initiated extensive military operations in the region, employing various tactics such as artillery shelling, small arms fire, and even airstrikes.
