Family members held a press conference on December 12 to address rumours regarding the disappearance of father and son from Mawlamyine since December 5th.
31-year-old Dr. Aye Zaw Tun and his three and half-year-old son disappeared from the Shwe Myine Thiri quarter in Mawlamyine on December 6. There has been no trace of the father and son for over a week, and family members decided to hold a press conference at the Myanmar Medical Association Venue in Mawlamyine today at 1.pm.
“I am so worried as a mother and as a wife,” said Dr. Namg Thin Thiri Mon, I want to see them as soon as possible. If something does happen, we will disclose all the details.”
The Mu Bon region police station noted that on December 6th they have opened a missing person case. Dr. Aye Zaw Tun and son were last seen driving an ash color Toyota Wish vehicle registered plate Mon-3L/9150.
“There have been many rumors on social media pages. We want to tell the truth that there has been no updated news related to Ko Aye Zaw Tun,” said Ko Aung Thu Hein, a brother-in-law.
According to Ko Zin Moe from the Mawlamyine Social Relief Organization, “the family asked us for help on December 7th. Whether Dr. Aye Zaw Tun and son have gone missing or they are hiding in the jungle or fell into a river or ditch [is unknown]. Connecting with other relief teams, we are searching for them together with the family,”
According to CCTV footage at the city entrance, the car has not been seen driving out of town. Officials from the police station, city head administrators, a firefighter team, and a relief team, have all volunteered to search all possible areas.
