As the third wave of the COVID-19 outbreak, the protective equipment such as mask, face shield, and hand-gel are rising in price again, according to the retailers.

A pack of masks costs normally between 2,500 kyats to 3,000 kyats and almost all kinds of masks are likely to continue to rise in price, according to a medical salesperson in Mawlamyine Township.

“Hand-gels are not so affected. Mask prices are very obvious. Businessmen have been stored it for a long time. At the time of rising price, they are simply selling out at a high price. They are out of stock now. The coming equipment will have to rise again”, said the salesperson.

In addition, the market in Mawlamyine has allowed only basic foodstuffs to be sold since yesterday (July 5), which is making the protective to be expensive to buy because it is difficult to buy them, according to a resident of Thanbyuzayat.

“When the market is closed and the street vendors are also closed, we order the mask online. The price is doubling that is customary in our country. In that case, we will have to wear the sewing cloth masks as before,” she said.

Due to the continuous spread of the COVID-19, some townships allow selling only parcels system. In this case, since there are 414 cases of COVID-19 infection in the Thanbyuzayat Township, five quarters of them have declared as Stay At Home.
