COVID-19 Outbreak Strikes Tedim

Three COVID-19 patients, including a 6-year-old, are receiving medical attention at the Tedim Public Hospital after eight people tested positive in the town in northern Chin State in September.

Five of them have already been discharged and the three who’re still in hospital are doing well, according to a health worker who requested anonymity.

“They received medical care for seven days, and when they recovered, they were allowed to leave the hospital,” the health worker said of the five people, but couldn’t say which variant was spreading because they don’t have a laboratory.

None of the patients travelled before they tested positive and they were vaccinated, which could be the reason why they didn’t get sick, the medical staff explained.

“We can test anyone who visits the outpatient clinic for free. If they’re positive, they’ll have to stay in the hospital, but medical treatment is free.” The worker invites people to give food donations for the patients.

Although most people have received their inoculations, there’s a new outbreak in Tedim, the person said, recommending that everyone wear face masks when they leave their homes, wash their hands frequently and practice social distancing.

Five cases have been detected in Falam town and some cases have been detected in Kalay in Sagaing Region.

According to the regime-controlled Ministry of Health, 80 per cent have not been vaccinated, 15.9 percent have received one injection and only 4 per cent have received two, while only 0.1 percent have received a booster shot.
