Court denies detained NLD MP’s bail application

Mawlamyine court denied the bail application of Daw Nwe Nwe Aung, who is a representative of NLD party, after she was charged under the Terrorism Act, according to a source acquainted with the matter.

In the previous hearing, her lawyers asked that the judge grant her bail on medical grounds because she was now in Kyaikmaraw prison and suffering from a heart attack.

On March 29, however, the judge dismissed the plea.

Daw Nwe Nwe Aung was charged with colluding with the dissenters and financially assisting them, and was detained under section 52 (a) of the Terrorism Act.

Daw Nwe New Aung, a representative of the National League for Democracy, is also the head of that party in Mawlamyine Township, where she won seats in the 2015 and 2020 general elections.
