CNF spokesman warns that Military Council’s airstrikes may increase in Chin State

The Chin National Front (CNF) warned that due to the tense situation in the region, the Tatmadaw ‘s military strategy in Chin State may change to an increasingly frequent use of artillery and airstrikes.

“ The overall situation in Chin State indicates the Military Council’s offensives this year are less than the previous year,” CNF spokesman Salai Htet Ni said.

“Compared to last year, it can be said there are fewer engagements in the entire Chin State. There are fewer operations in the southern part of Chin State than in the northern areas this year. Last year, both the southern and northern areas faced simultaneous attacks targeting Matupi and Hakha. But they only focus on attacking the north this year. Even so, the fighting slowed down. I don’t know if it’s because their side becomes weak. They use more artillery, and it is not the same as before. Previously, we fought close combat only 20 or 25 feet apart. Now they use more long-range artillery. Also, when it’s open season, they tend to use more jet fighters. On the battlefield, it can be said that their military strength has decreased”, he explained.

On November 2, a reconnaissance plane of the Military Council flew over CNF’s headquarters at Camp Victoria,. The flight came after the Military Council’s infamous bombing of A Nang Pa area in Hpakant Township of Kachin State.

In addition, photos of the Military Council’s plans to attack Camp Victoria were also leaked on social media platforms.

In the past few days, the number of flights of the Military Council’s fighter jets had increased in Chin State. On November 7, two warplanes bombed the Themit plain between Hakha and Thantlang.

The CNF spokesperson said that the CNF has taken measures to prepare for the possibility of encountering airstrikes by the Military Council.

“From the time the plane flew over our headquarters, we have started to prepare in advance. We have carefully prepared our defence before they launch an air attack. Due to the geographical position of Chin Hills, casualties should be low even in a heavy aerial attack. And we are well prepared”, he said.

Currently, fighting is spreading in some places in Chin State, including Themit plain.
