AA seizes full control over Minbya after Defeat of 3 Battalions

The Arakan Army (AA) has successfully defeated all three Military Council battalions based in Minbya Township, Rakhine State. The  AA seized control of the 380th Light Infantry Battalion camp on January 28th, followed by  the two remaining battalions in many cases the soldiers surrendered.

“An individual close to AA told Narinjara " The division commander of 379th Battalion was reported as injured with over a hundred soldiers wounded as well. Nearly 600 soldiers and including their families, were warned to surrender to AA. This morning, it is  confirmed that all of them surrendered.”

A Minbya resident with close ties to AA also informed Narinjara that the 379th Light Infantry Battalion, one of the few remaining battalions in Minbya Township, was entirely captured during the night of February 5th.There are no more Junta soldiers left around Minbya”, he said.

A Minbya resident informed Narinjara that he witnessed over 100 prisoners of war (PoWs) and their families from the 379th Light Infantry Battalion being transported by  the AA in four vehicles around 9:00 am on February 6th.

"There were trucks in total, carrying more than 100 soldiers, though I’m not sure of the exact number. Following closely behind was one of our (AA) vehicles. Among the group were numerous women, children, and injured troops. As the convoy passed, our AA comrades roared in triumph, 'We got it.' The scene unfolded near Yar Maung bridge, a moment that left me filled with excitement”, he recalled.

According to a resident, the surrenders in Minbya Township included not just the township administrator and department officials, but also military family members, who brought along their chickens and pigs.

Furthermore, on February 6th, in Shwelaung village, Minbya Township, shrapnel from air raids by the coup regime injured a 9-year-old boy and two women in their 40s.
