7 civilians including 2 children in Kyauktaw injured after Military Council fired artillery into villages

The artillery shelling of the Military Council into Shwe Pyi and Shwe Pyi Thit villages in Kyauktaw Township, Rakhine State, injured 7 people including two 7-year-old children and an elderly person.

At around 1:00 PM on November 11, Kyauktaw-based No. 9 Operation Command Headquarters fired artillery aimed at residential areas. One artillery shell landed in Shwe Pyi Village, and 2 other shells hit a residential house in Shwe Pyi Thit Village.

“Artillery rounds hit a house in our village and injured 4 people. Now they are lying in pools of blood. A villager was also injured by artillery in Shwe Pyi Village”, a local from Shwe Pyi Thit Village said.

On the evening of November 10, Military Council troops entered Sin Inn Gyi village and burned 4 houses. The next morning, the bodies of 9 people shot dead, including an elderly woman, were found in the village.

At present, there is no fighting in Kyauktaw and the locals accuse the Military Council of deliberately firing artillery at the public

Those injured by the artillery shell in Shwe Pyi Thit were U Maung Thein Aung (75), his wife Daw Oo Mya Phyu (70), his daughter May Gyi (32) and his granddaughter Ma Khaing Zin Phyo (7) and other three villagers.

A shell fell into the neighboring Shwe Pye Village and also injured a 7-year-old girl Ma Hla Hla Kywat on her head. In another incident a person from Dpar Yone Village of Ponnagyun Township was killed by an artillery shell, and another seriously injured person died on the way to the hospital on the morning of November 11.
