100-Vehicle Military Council Convoy Penetrating Karenni State Met with Resistance, 2 Vehicles Destroyed

The local resistance joint forces intercepted a heavily armed convoy of the Military Council traveling from Shan State to Loikaw Township in Karenni (Kayah) State, successfully destroying two of their vehicles during an ambush.

According to Colonel Phone Naing, the Adjutant General of the Karenni Army (KA), the Military Council's convoy was ambushed by resistance forces near the villages of Konethar and Waryikawkhu, situated along the National Highway between Mobye (Mongpai) and Loikaw.

"We managed to burn only two of their vehicles. The enemy's shelling became so intense that our comrades had to retreat”, he told Kantarawaddy Times.

There were believed to be casualties on the Military Council's side during the battle, and the resistance forces also managed to seize some weapons and ammunition.

The Military Council commenced their march from Mobye with a convoy of approximately 100 vehicles between July 25th and 27th.

“Their convoy could have over 100 vehicles. Each day, between 40 and 50 cars leave Mobye in groups. They are carrying a significant amount of fuel, food, and ammunition, and we're unable to determine the total military strength in the convoy”, Colonel Phone Naing said.

According to KA, the troops in the advancing convoy of the Military Council belong to the 55th Division. Following the ambush by resistance forces, some vehicles in the convoy turned back to Mobye. Moreover, the Military Council has deployed a substantial number of military forces in Mobye.

An aid worker in Pekon Township reported that Junta soldiers were conducting home inspections of civilians in the areas where they are currently stationed.

"In the areas around Pekin and Nyaungwaing villages, the Military Council troops have been stationed for a while now, covering most of Mobye Township. They frequently conduct inspections of civilian homes without any prior notice”, he said.

The aforementioned aid worker also said that certain war-displaced individuals who had returned to check their homes' conditions were fatally shot by the Military Council troops without any inquiries or warning.

According to residents, there have been recent clashes between the Military Council and resistance joint forces in Pekon, which is situated not far from Mobye.
