Ann: Torrential rain since July 29 has inundated several areas in Ann Township in Arakan State, said a local resident.

“At least six places in Ann town are reeling under flood waters following the heavy downpour. The floods have brought to a halt travel in buses between Sittwe and Rangoon. Normal life of ordinary people has been crippled by the rain and floods,” he said.

The floods have badly affected the part of Ann town where Ann hospital is located. The accumulated water here is at least seven feet high, a local source said.

The other flooded areas are near the Ann police station, while some are between downtown Ann and Tet Taung, between Ann and Lower Ann (milestone 95 to 96) and in some places near the Burmese Army’s arms and ammunition depot.

The areas have been under water since July 29 and the water is yet to be drained out.

The floods have brought to a halt travel in buses between Sittwe and Rangoon from July 29.

Some families of army officers and soldiers belonging to the western command were shifted to schools and buildings located in higher places because some homes in the family quarters have been inundated, said an eyewitness.

Authorities have warned local people not to cross bridges in the township because some of them have been damaged by flood waters.
