Maungdaw: Bodies of four Bangladeshi people were found in a remote area in the southeastern border on Friday. No on seems to have a clue behind the murders, said a community leader in the area.

"I heard they were Bangladeshi bamboo cutters and were killed by unidentified people having intruded into Burmese territory for cutting bamboo," he said.

According to local sources, people found the bodies of the Bangladeshi woodcutters in the deep forest in Nakhongchari township in Bandarban district, which is opposite the Burmese town of Maungdaw

The four men were apparently stabbed to death after their hands and feet were tied with ropes. Many stab injuries were found on their bodies.

A Bangladeshi from Cox's Bazaar said, "The bamboo cutters are from Okia Township under Cox's Bazaar District, and there is now tension on the border after the murders."

A source from Burma said Nasaka, Burma's border security force, Nasaka, arrested some people from Nga Ran Chaung Village, which is located near where the bodies were found.

"There is a rumour on the border that they were killed after a clash occurred between Burmese and Bangladesh bamboo cutters. Afterwards the Nasaka authorities arrested some local people," said the community leader.

Nasaka authorities are worried about the murders as they were Bangladesh citizens and they are currently investigating who was responsible for the killings.

It was also learnt that there are rumours in the border area that the murders were committed by Nasaka forces from an outpost, but there is so far no evidence on this.
