A notorious Burmese bandit was arrested after an early morning gunfight broke out between his gang of robbers and the Bangladesh police near Cox’s Bazar district on Wednesday.
Md Tarek, 30, surrendered to the police, reported The Independent, a prominent English daily newspaper from Dhaka.
Four police were injured in the gunfight that took place in the small village of Dolah Fakir Majar in southern Bangladesh.
Manjur Kader, sub-inspector, Nasir, special investigator and constables Mamum and Mahboob are being hospitalized in the Cox’s Bazar hospital.
According to police sources, the gang was planning an operation in the Dolah Fakir Majar locality when they were intercepted by Eidgaon police. The gang opened fire on the police team that was led by SI Manjur Kader.
Md Tarek, son of Abul Hossen, is from Lapiya village in Maungdaw Township, Arakan State in Burma. But he has been living illegally in Jouarianla hills in Ramu Township, Cox’s Bazar.
The police team has reportedly seized a homemade gun, 9 mm cartridges and other contraband from the gang.
