Burglars are taken advantage of strict curfews imposed in Arakan State to rob shops in Kyauktaw. Several were robbed near the Shwe Pyi Thit bus station on Saturday morning.

Kyauk-Taw-Arakan-state“Daw Moe Shwe’s shop was broken into. Food supplies worth about 500,000 Kyat (US $587) was stolen from her shop,” said Ko Maung Chay.

He also said mobile phones were robbed from another shop close to the bus station on the same night.

“No-one sleeps is sleeping in their shops since the violence started for their own security. They close their shops in the evening and re-open in the morning. Their shops were burglarized because no-one is guarding them. .”

The curfew in Kyauktaw has been relaxed but there are still restrictions of being on the street from 10 pm to 5 am.

“There are no soldiers deployed near the Shwe Pyi Thit bus station. They’re deployed near the Gissapa Nadi Bridge. It’s a bit far away.”
