“The British Ambassador and two other officials came to Sittwe at 3:30 pm and we met them at 5:30 pm in the Noble Hotel. We mainly discussed the recent unrest in our region”, said U Oo Hla Saw, the General Secretary of the RNDP.

RNDP President Dr. Aye Maung reportedly met with the ambassador, along with the Lawmaker of State Parliament from Sittwe Township U Maung Nyo, Central Committee Member U Shwe Maung, and General Secretary U Oo Hla Saw.

U Oo Hla Saw said that during the meeting, the British Ambassador asked for their opinions of the recent unrest and the requirements for a future peaceful co-existence between Arakanese Buddhists and Muslims.

“We told him how the unrest occurred, explaining the background history of our region and our opinions of how the two communities—Arakanese Buddhists and Muslims—will be able to live peacefully in the future. We have also told him about the decisions made at the public meeting held in Rathedaung on September 25 and 26, emphasizing that those decisions reflect genuine desires of the Arakanese public”, said U Hla Saw.

He also said they presented facts to the British Ambassador's team showing that Arakan State is the poorest region in Burma – suffering from a variety of crises and needing urgent development. The RNDP requested that international governments and organizations refrain from bias while working on the affairs of Arakan State.

“The British Ambassador told us that they will try their best to help regional development as well as helping to find the best solutions for peaceful co-existence between the two communities in our region”, he said.

The British Ambassador's delegation reportedly met with Muslim community leaders on the same day after the RNDP meeting.
