Nasaka - BGB Flag Meeting in Cox's Bazar

Cox'sbazar: A flag meeting between Burma 's border security force Nasaka and Border Guards Bangladesh, or BGB, was held on Monday in Bangladesh's border town Cox's Bazaar, a report said.

BDR-Nasaka285The flag meeting started at 9 am in the meeting room of Hotel Sea Palace in Cox's Bazaar and was concluded after a two-hour discussion. A seventeen-member Nasaka team led by Colonel Aung Gri, Commander-in-Charge of the Nasaka force based in Maungdaw, attended the meeting with a 17-member Border Guards Bangladesh team led by Colonel Aswald, BDR Chittagong Division Commander.

At the meeting the two sides discussed several border related issues such as the promotion of border trade, cracking down on border smuggling, and the prevention of cross-border trafficking, said a local reporter.

During the meeting, two sides discussed the issue of prisoner exchanges between two countries. Recently ten Bangladeshis were released from Buthidaung prison as part of a nationwide amnesty granted by Burma's new President U Thein Sein.

The flag meeting was a regular meeting and there was no discussion of new issues between the two delegations, the reporter said.

The Nasaka team visited some Rakhine markets in downtown Cox's Bazaar after the flag meeting concluded, said a shop owner in the town.
