Kyauktaw: A husband killed his wife and set fire to the home where they were staying as guest, resulting in a blaze that gutted 31 village buildings, according to a government report.

The incident took place in a village in Kyauk Taw Township in Arakan State on 21 April.

The report said the incident took place while the couple - 31-year-old U Ah Kyaw Chay, and 27-year-old Daw Apru Chay - were staying at U Mae Lar house in Upper Tin Ma Village and had a domestic quarrel.

During the fight, the husband stabbed his wife to death and set fire suddenly to the house.

One primary school, one wayside public rest house, and 29 homes burned to ashes, leaving 29 families with 158 people homeless.
