Chiang Mai – Blogger and author Nay Phone Latt was produced in court for the first time on July 8 in Insein prison precincts. The judge told him that he was charged with more cases.

The Rangoon West District Additional Judge heard the case of Nay Phone Latt (28) at No. 2 Court inside the Insein prison compound. The judge informed him that more charges were added to his case besides the case under section 32(b) of the Video Act.

His defence lawyer Aung Thein said that the government charged him with more cases under section 505(b) (inciting to commit against public tranquility) of the Criminal Code, under section 32(b) / 36 of the Video Act and under section 33(a) / 38 of Electronic Act.

But the prison authorities informed Nay Phone Latt on July 2 in Insein prison that the charge sheet of his case has been changed to section 5(j) of 1950 Emergency Provisions Act. He told his mother about it when she met him on July 7.

So the news appeared that the charge sheet of his case had been changed. But in the next hearing the judge informed Ko Nay Phone Latt during court proceedings that the case charged to section 5(j) had been dropped and other cases added to original charge.

The authorities arrested Nay Phone Latt on January 29 and charged him under section 32(b) of the Video Act.

"I met him on July 7. He told me that the charge sheet has been changed under different sections. But I'm surprised that he was produced before the court on July 8. I have no idea why it was changed suddenly. The prison authorities first informed him that the case under section 5(j) has been dropped and the next hearing has been fixed for July 16 to get judicial remand. This is what my son said to me. Then he was produced before the court on July 8. And he has been charged with three cases under different sections of different Acts," his mother Daw Aye Aye Than said in astonishment.

Thin July Kyaw from Dagon Township who was arrested along with Nay Phone Latt on the same day was charged under section 505(b) of the Criminal Code and under section 32(b) / 36 of the Video Act.
