Nine international companies have been selected as consultants at the primary stage to undertake joint venture tasks between the government and private entrepreneurs in three sectors of the oil and gas business, according to the Ministry of Energy October 13.

Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise or MOGE will carry out joint-venture tasks with the private sector in drilling services, seismic services and pipeline-laying services. In doing so, the state enterprise plans to take advice from experienced international companies.

A total of 10 international companies applied for a pre-qualification Letter of Expression of Interest (LOEI) to MOGE.

The ministry will evaluate the proposals of nine of the 10 consultative companies from the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany and Singapore to whittle down the contenders.

MOGE will shortly send invitations for discussions with VDB-Loi Myanmar, Jones Day (USA), Berwin Leighton Paisner (U.K.), Schlumberger Business Consulting (France), Rajah & Tann (Singapore), Fichtner Gmbh & Co. KG (Germany), EP Legal (Vietnam), Elegen Energy Pty Ltd Oil and Gas Services (Australia), and Roland Berger Strategy Consultants (Germany).

SPD with Leap Energy (UK) was dropped from the selection.
