U Aung Zaw, founder and editor-in-chief of The Irrawaddy will receive a 2014 International Press Freedom Award from the Committee to Protect Journalists’; it was announced on September 30.

He is one of four journalists, the others being from Iran, Russia and South Africa, who will be honoured at the CPJ’s annual award and benefit dinner in New York on November 2014.

A press release from the organisation said “these journalists have faced imprisonment, violence, and censorship.”

The CPJ’s website also encouraged readers to tweet “President Thein Sein: Release all jailed journalists in Burma and stop the harassment of the media”.
