A survey to determine the cost of living in Myanmar has begun and the results will help establish a minimum wage to be introduced in December, said Ko Naw Aung, a member of the committee charged with the task of setting a basic wage for the nation.
Ko Naw Aung told Mizzima on September 1 that data collection will continue for the rest of the month and would be conducted across a nationwide sample of townships and wards.
He added the survey, to be conducted by officials from the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security will collect information on a the size of a household, their daily household expenses, the income and occupation of individual able bodied household members aged 22 to 59 and establish a regional price index for basic commodities.
U Myo Aung, director general of the Ministry told Mizzima on September 1 that a key difficulty in the establishing of a minimum wage was the regional difference found across Myanmar in people household.
That survey will be conducted by the officials from Labour ministry, the employers and the Labour unions.
