Floods in Bago township, Bago Region have caused 9000 residents spread across nine wards to be evacuated after the Bago river burst its banks on August 6, a township administrator told Mizzima on August 7.

“Residents were evacuated to nearby monasteries and pagodas;food and shelter is being provided by the donors in the township and all has gone well,” said U Khin Thein Maung.

“In some places water has risen to the roofs of our homes, almost all low-lying areas are underwater,” said Ko Linn Naing Oo, a flood victim from Ma-zin ward, “ we are all concerned about sickness, diarrhoea and the general health of victims,” he added.
 
Over the past week, there have been reports of deaths and people going missing due to floods from across the country.

Dr Tun Lwin, the renowned former weatherman, told his followers on social media that Myanmar could continue to expect higher than average rainfall over the next three months.
