The ruling Union Solidarity and Development Party has unveiled plans for a campaign to attract more workers and farmers as members.

The USDP's Yangon Region secretary U Thar Win said the plans were drawn up at a forum attended by farmer, worker and youth members of the party at its headquarters in Nay Pyi Taw on July 7.

As part of the membership campaign, the party would hold similar gatherings at state, regional and township level throughout the country, U Thar Win told Mizzima after the forum, which was addressed by USDP chairman, Thura U Shwe Mann.

"Farmers and workers who are members of the USDP will help to persuade their peers to vote for the party; nobody will be left out," the USDP newspaper, Pyidaungsu Daily, quoted Thura U Shwe Mann as telling the forum.
