President to celebrate peaceful coexistence with China and India

President U Thein Sein will make his third visit to China on June 27 -30 in a trip that will mark the 60th anniversary of an agreement for peaceful coexistence signed between China, India and Myanmar.

Presidential spokesperson U Ye Htut spoke about the trip to Xinhua on June 24.

“U Ye Htut stressed that 60 years ago, leaders from Myanmar, China and India courageously made the historic decision to introduce the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence which have become basic norms and guiding principles in international relations,” said China’s state news agency.

It reported that U Thein Sein will meet his presidential counterpart, President Xi Jinping for the first time and Indian Vice President Shri Mohammad Hamid Ansari will also be in attendance in Beijing on June 28-29.

In response to news of the trip, Dr Manam Tu Ja, leader of the Kachin State Democracy Party spoke Mizzima on June 25.

“In the process of democratisation…while we build good relationships with the US, we must maintain good relations with our neighbours, for they are ready to come to our aid in any emergency,” said Dr Manam Tu Ja.
